For each issue: check causes, run safe diagnostics, note what you found, and escalate to your tracking provider (platform behavior) or Google Ads support (disapprovals). DNS propagation, TLS certificates, platform settings and certification status are separate issues.
Tracking link doesn’t open
Causes: DNS not resolving, server down, TLS error, typo. Inspect: curl -I, DNS
lookup. Document the status code and time.
Destination parameter missing or malformed
Causes: wrong parameter name, dropped by a hop. Inspect: the raw URL and each hop’s
Location header.
Incorrect URL encoding
Decode the nested value and compare it with the intended URL; watch for double encoding.
Redirect loops
Look for two rules pointing at each other (e.g. HTTP/HTTPS or www rules). Trace hops until the repeat.
Landing page inaccessible
Check status code, firewall or geo rules, and bot blocking that may also block reviewers.
Works in a browser, fails in an ad test
Compare headers and user agents, check timeouts and redirect limits, and confirm the tracker isn’t blocking automated checks. Never serve reviewers different content.
Template variables misconfigured
Compare with current Google Ads Help for valid ValueTrack parameters and field usage.
CNAME changes not propagated
DNS caching (TTL) delays changes; query the authoritative nameserver and wait.
HTTPS certificate errors
Check expiry, hostname match and chain. A new CNAME may need the provider to issue a certificate for your domain.
Destination changes unexpectedly
Review tracker rules, rotators and platform settings. Unexpected destinations are a compliance risk; audit and document.
Tracking-related disapproval
Read the stated reason, re-test the full journey, fix the configuration, and contact Google Ads support if the reason is unclear. Do not attempt to bypass review or disguise destinations.
